Common Faults and Troubleshooting Methods of Spider Crane

Fault 1: Boom wire rope break or thread deform

Phenomenon: The wire rope on the boom break during lifting, or the connection thread get deformed. The boom can not extend or retract normally, lifting work stop.
Possible reasons: Long time overloaded lifting exceed the rated load; wire rope wear seriously and not replace in time; boom get bent obviously make wire rope bear abnormal force; too much dust on wire rope and no lubrication for long time.
Remedy: Stop work at once, check the damage of wire rope and boom. Replace wire rope that do not meet technical requirement, check boom thread condition. If boom is bent obviously, ask professional maintenance worker to fix or replace it. Do daily lubrication for wire rope, strictly forbid overloaded operation.

Fault 2: Lifting hook can not lock or fall off abnormally

Phenomenon: The lifting hook can not lock the load normally, or the safety latch fail, make heavy object easy fall off.
Possible reasons: Too much dust and debris on the hook cause jamming; the hook or safety latch is damaged; long term use cause wear of hook bearing, result in inflexible rotation.
Remedy: Clean up debris and grease on the hook first, try open and close the latch repeatedly. If it still not work, check whether the hook and safety latch are damaged. Replace with new standard parts if damaged. Lubricate the hook bearing regular to keep it flexible.

Fault 3: Outrigger can not extend or retract normally

Phenomenon: The hydraulic outrigger move slowly, can not extend or retract in place, or oil leak from the cylinder.
Possible reasons: Insufficient hydraulic oil; hydraulic pipeline blocked or solenoid valve fail; sealing ring inside cylinder is damaged cause internal leakage; foreign matter stuck in outrigger slide way.
Remedy: Check hydraulic oil level first, add specified type hydraulic oil if insufficient. Check whether solenoid valve work normally and pipeline is blocked. Replace the damaged sealing ring if oil leak happen. Clean foreign matters in slide way and apply lubricating grease.

Fault 4: Remote control signal failure or no response

Phenomenon: The remote control have no response after press button, or signal is intermittent, crane action is delayed.
Possible reasons: Remote control battery power is insufficient; there are signal interference source around site; receiver wiring is loose; remote control is damaged by fall or water ingress.
Remedy: Replace remote control battery first to confirm power supply is normal. Stay away from interference sources like high-voltage lines. Check receiver wiring and working state on the crane. If remote control is damaged, contact manufacturer for repair.

How to Choose Reliable Spider Crane

There are many brand and model of spider crane on the market, product quality is uneven. When purchasing, we can identify quality from following aspects, avoid buy inferior product:
  1. Check core components brand, confirm hydraulic and electrical parts are reliable brand. Check steel structure welding seam is uniform or not, no missing welding and air holes.

  2. Verify manufacturer qualification, choose regular manufacturer with complete production certificate, they can provide formal test report and after-sales guarantee.

  3. Confirm actual parameter is true, do not believe false publicity of low price product. If condition permit, do on-site load test to verify actual performance.
